What is Vibration Training For?
Is Vibration Training just a quick fix to weight management, or is there more to it? Do people even really want to know? Or is it like TV - switching it on and watching the pretty pictures is enough - who cares how the thing works, right?
If you are one of those people who just want the results with none of the fussy explanations, then move along. Nothing to see here.
If you are really interested - you may like the following.
This is new material I have written to explain what my deeper goals are. Some of it may present a different way of viewing the bio-mechanical human structure than those traditionally taught. Hopefully it will allow you to “SEE” what is really happening.
Bio-Mechanical Physics 101…
“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred”
Physiology to me is a way of labeling and simplifying physics to:
- allow those in the industry to identify patterns of energy (movement and function) and follow its effect.
- use large blocks of named matter to isolate and treat problems that occur in the tissue.
I personally see the body as 10 trillion separate cells, waiting to receive and transfer energy so it can perform its required task. Each cells function is dictated by its own DNA/Chromosome instruction manual. Yes, every single cell, no matter what type, can be affected.
When I design a Vibration Training device, I account for where the energy goes, what its effects on the cells are, how strong the effect will be, and at what point it is delivered in the safest means.
Your Genetic Potential
Each cell in the human body has a genetic potential. This is stored by the matched DNA/Chromosome system we inherit from our parents. This Genetic Potential is never reached, as signals from the inner cell are not strong and may not get through, and even if a signal does get through, the needed nutrients, hormones etc, and other outside requirements for the cell to complete its task may not be met.
In fact almost everything can stop the cell from reaching its full potential. Not enough food, too much food; not enough sun, too much sun; not enough exercise, too much exercise - you get the picture…
Sometimes the Chromosome or DNA is even damaged and the signal may not be sent complete.
The odds are stacked against us for a reason - too easy and the species would have little weaknesses, which goes against the “Only the strongest survive” rule.
You can quite often see this with immigrants from 3rd world nations who have children in their new homeland. The children are somewhat taller than their parents. What’s happened? Have they jumped in height in only one generation? Of course not, this would be impossible from an evolutionary standpoint.
What has happened is that the parents had the same genetic potential all along, but it just was never reached because of different 3rd world issues (mainly nutrient deficiency). Their children have gotten closer to the genetic potential.
But adequate nutrition is not the only way to ensure that a cell can receive a signal. An outside force exerting itself on the cellular wall will also fire off its own signal burst (as in a myostatic reflex), that spurs the cell into action to do the only thing its designed to do, whatever that may be.
Vibration Training Platform
The reason I choose to use Kinetic Vibration to produce a signal in cells is because it is almost impossible to stop. In fact the only way to avoid it is to avoid contact with the unit. This system gives us just another way to try and over-ride a lifestyle that may block the realization of our Genetic Potential.
But what’s the real point to all these signals. Why not just exercise voluntarily - wouldn’t that just fix everything?
Unfortunately our lifestyle does not allow us to receive the required amount of constant stimulation all other animals get from their normal day to day existence. Think about this.
We are the only animal thats needs to ‘run for fun’ to stay fit. We are the only animal with an obesity problem.
We have essentially managed to evolve our surroundings to a point where lack of stimulation and over-nutrition is now killing us.
Properly built Vibration units should have all these stimulation equations designed into them. They must be balanced to send a balanced signal, as the cells are not fooled easily and require the correct amount of Kinetic Pressure to unlock the key to the response.
I try to replicate most of the signals you would normally receive over 2 days, and put it all into 15 minutes.
OK, in real terms what does this mean?
As an example, over the course of 190 days the average person gets a chance to replace their entire skeletal structure.
Using the ‘Direct Signal’ method of Vibration Training your body has a better chance of reaching its true Genetic Mass Potential. I have used bone as my example as it is the hardest, most complicated and slowest tissue to form. Softer tissue will be faster.
You may see results on a good unit in less than 3 weeks on softer tissue like red muscle cells. But my advice would be to look at your body in blocks of 190 days. This gives your body a chance for a true ‘Body Composition’ change.
I hope this gives food for thought. Comments on this article are more than welcome.

Scientific America report , Jan 2008…
The reports starts out by saying ” Exercise takes energy , and presumably that combats obesity.”
Good start….
Scientists at Stony Brook University found that Vibrating mice for 15mins every other day reduced Body-Fat% by 27%. The body fat mainly decreased in their torso. They also had significant reductions in fatty compounds linked to type2 diabetes.
Now this is great for our industry that these guys have decided to do animal trials for relevent things like obesity , instead of seeing how hign they can make people jump.
But one of the scientists stated this result may have come about from stem cells not turning into fat cells.
One major flaw in that arguement…..
You produce most fat cells in the womb ( third trimester ) or during puberty, after that you just fill up the ones you have or keep them empty. So according to his theory , only fetuses and teens can get the advantages of this treatment ?
Good study , bad theory.

I hope you dont mind but I put your question in this section…..
I need help on some medical problems a few of my patients have to find out if WVB will be harmful to them. I hope to get them started in the next few weeks when I get my machine.
(1) When they talk about severe diabetes what are they talking about?
(2) Patient has a stent in one of his coronary arteries can he use WBV and if yes what settings would you do for them?
(3) Last one Patient had hip replacement and now has a metal rod and ball in his leg WVB ok yes/no?
Answers……
(1) Severe diabetes means insulin dependent. Make sure they have their shots with them and eat well before the workout .
(2) Get him clearence from his Doctor first. The question that needs to be asked is ” is he allowed to jog ”
Correct and perfect posture will ensure less impact is placed on any implants than jogging would induce.Best setting = 43Hz / 2-3mm
(3) You will need a frame/handrails so the person can take weight out of leg poses. Correct angles still must be help regardless.
Note: Movement is not the problem with hip replacements , its movement + pressure.

March 20th, 2008Hello Lloyd,
My friend is about to start WBV training utilizing your poster positions. He had ACL reconstruction and they fashioned anew acl for him from his hamstring.
He is six weeks out and does have a permenant metal screw in his leg bone.
When he brought up the idea of WBV to his physical therapist they were very supportive of him going for it as they say it will greatly enhance the proporeception(getting the nerves to communicate with the brain-knowing where the leg is) which is usually a problem after ACL.
He has not started earlier-due to the fact that I talked him out of it.
At 5 weeks the graft is at it’s weakest. Yes he is doing all sorts of other types of strength training-
I just thought it would be a good idea to wait till week 6 or so to go full blast with the lower body poster workout. What are your thoughts? No one-legged lungse would be used. Just partial, deep, wide-squats and then the stretch.
Like I said, the PT wanted him to go earlier-but they are only vaguely familiar with WBV.
What should I tell him that is important when starting this?
Refer to number 3 on the last post. I would not advise full body weight training for at least 8 weeks. I would usually tell him to speak to his physio , but they seem a bit reckless.

March 20th, 2008Lloyd,
Once again thanks for your help! I know that I am going to be able to make a difference in my patients lives beyond what I have already done for them. I do have a question for you. Beside asking you ever time a medical problem comes up, is there a website that goes into more detail on medical issues that would be contraindication. Everything I have seen is to vague.
I worked hard to get where I am today with my practice to turn around and put it and my patients at risk. And because WVB is so new to the medical world here in the USA that having a Doc ok someone when they know nothing about it is hard to get. It like the guy that has the prostate cancer. He went to his Doc’s and they didn’t have a clue. So let me also ask you this have you ever had to get a Doc’s ok and how did you explain WVB to them so they could make the best choice for the patient.
Once again thanks!!

March 20th, 2008Lloyd,
The more I read the information here the more questions I have. So here are 2 more for you.
1) Mike Hair talks about the 4 days he spent with you. ? where did he spend the 4 days with you and how much do you charge for it? The other question is at your studio do you take a medical history before you put someone on the machine? And also do you have them sign a consent form? If yes would you be willing to share what’s on your consent form. Sorry for asking about this, but I do come the country of sue happy people.
Thanks,
BB
(1) No other site exists that I am aware of , I think you will find the lack of general knowledge in this area is so profound it should concern us all.
(2) My new site and regulating body ( I.V.T.R.B. ) will take care of the hard core medical questions and advanced scientific articles . I have just been too busy designing to launch it yet.
(3) Mike Hair came to my studio in Auckland , he was not charged a fee but signed a document promising to uphold safety programs and ethical business practices.
It is important to note that he was given no education with the machines that were sold to him and certainly not the kind of information you can now access here.(4) I do get our customers to sigh a consent form , we ask about a list of standard contra-indications and get them to highlight injuries on a body chart. You would be best to get this off a U.S. based studio/retailer.
Take the time to re-write up your own so you can not be accused of plagiarism .
(5) I have no way of effectively communicating with Doctors at present , I rely on their willingness to research the subject.
Note: Most Doctors are too lazy to do anything other than what they are told , a specialist will however , as it was their motivation to learn more after uni that made them a specialist.
I tell people to ditch their Doctor if they are lazy and get a new one.
BB,
Just my curiosity, what is your profession?
Whenever we tell our clients/patients to seek for medical advice whether they are suitable for WBV training, in most cases they would not get their answer as most medical and allied health professionals are lack of knowledge on WBV.
In order to help the clients/patients to obtain a proper advice, perhaps we can guide them better in asking questions. Here are some suggestions:
1) IS THE CONDITION SAFE OR SUITABLE FOR RESISTANCE EXERCISE? WBV shares the same principle of conventional resistance exercise - TO OVERLOAD OUR BODY TO ACHEIVE STRENGTHENING EFFECT! Medical & allied health pros may not know WBV but they should know the definition of resistance exercise, if the condition is suitable for resistance exercise, WBV should be OK.
2) Tell the doctor/therapist that WBV is kind of “CLOSED CHAIN EXERCISE”. This term helps to understand the exercise is quite safe for joints that will be involved in the training.
3) In case the client is having heart problem, tell the client’s doctor WBV is kind of “MILD CARDIO TRAINING” as the exercise is done at “STATIC POSES”.

Before I answer what kinda of practice I have first let me say thanks to you and Lloyd for the information.
The problem is I have seen the consent form that a few studios use here and they are so basic in what they ask. If WVB makes the changes in the body celluler make if someone says they have a rare blood cancer and have had it for years and is just now showing up in blood test, but yet they are as healthy as a horse, but also and power lifter. After reading the post from the guy who had prostae cancer and you (Lloyd)said no to WVB would this applly to all cancers? I guess my point to all this is that if WVB really dose everything to the body that everyone claims it can. Then how the heck can big gyms just put them in and let whoever use them like it was a dumb bell. With that said and because Doc’s and for the most part PT’s don’t know anything about it I am going to be counting on you(Lloyd) and others to guide me on medical problems.Ok now for what I do.My License is in Massge Therapy, but I don’t do your typical massage I do Active release technique which deals with manipulation of muscle and freeing up nerve entrapments. I see WVB being a big plus with helping with Range of motion and building strength for those with little ROM. And because I have a wide range of Patients health wise I need to know more than the basic if WVB is going cause problems for them or not. Sorry for spelling nd gramer errors it’s late.
Once again Thanks.
bb
P.S. the website for Active Release is activerelease.com
The problem with cancer…
(1) Tumours have a habit of bleeding randomly under pressure , in some cases where the blood cannot drain it will cause undue pressure. Maybe you might get away with this in the abdomen, but not in the skull.
(2) Certain types of cancer respond to increased hormones ( usually estrogen ).
(3) We just dont know enough to make the call for certain.
Note: People with cancer are using home models already , so any real concerns will come to light quickly.
I personally hope we are just being over cautious.

March 23rd, 2008I wanted to comment on something Timothy Chan just posted:
“In order to help the clients/patients to obtain a proper advice, perhaps we can guide them better in asking questions.
3) In case the client is having heart problem, tell the client’s doctor WBV is kind of “MILD CARDIO TRAINING” as the exercise is done at “STATIC POSES”.
I know there are a lot of medical questions that come up on this board. I come here and do it often.
Timothy’s post really rang a bell for me and meshed perfectly with my expeierence.A dear friend of mine just had ACL recon. with a hamstring graft. It was done by one of the top surgeons in the states and by a guy that is contracted for surgery with NHL and NFL players. When my buddy asked about WBV the doc said it did’nt matter and went right into the resistance training-leg press squats etc and close chained terminology listed above.
Maybe misguided, but I always thought of WBV as something far beyond those terms and parameters.
Granted on WBV position is of utmost importance and also not over-doing it and staying within the guide lines Lloyd has set out I’ve found to be important(as opposed to the Power Plate crap I had been adhering to). There may also be an issue with actual hip or knee replacements due to the cement used and heart implants, but other than that, perhaps if the terminology Timothy suggests is used with medical professionals when addressing your issues-you will get much more specific information as they are the ones with the knowledge of your specific condidtion?I could easily see asking a physician for advice on if WBV were ok to employ-for a physican without any knowledge of it- Who knows what would go through their head(maybe images of a mechanical bull or some odd device used in scientology initiations??!!:)
In summing up- If WBV does truly fall within the parameters of exercise outlined by Timothy’s questions-it may make a heck of a lot more sense asking the doc that then asking him about WBV and then trying to educate him on what it is-something most are’nt to keen to want to delve into…Many have gone through enough school to qualify approaches outside what they are familiar with as out of hand.
I know I personally got a weird look a while back when I brought up WBV and a hamstring issue I had. Those questions may have averted that.
One caveat that I can think of though- is that for a close chained exercise it seems to me you really need to have a quality unit that won’t be throwing off variable amplitudes etc. The $499.00 internet special jobs might just get you laid up.

All good points guys…
This is what we are meant to be doing , getting all our ideas into one train of thought to speed up our goals.
As in the article above alot of what we do in this early stage in the industry is Theory. Most wont be proven or unproven for many years .
Even the best minds in this feild of science are still trying to figure out the basics , as with Clinton Rubins recent press release about the new theory that some cells may be able to turn into bone instead of fat , if given the right signal.
I personally dont agree with it , but it will remain a theory until it is proven wrong.
This came up because a Doctor friend of Murrys disagreed with my work because he knows how bone is formed , maybe he should tell the world so we can all can know.
Until he parts with his wisdom I will continue to write theory , develop this technology and set about changing the way people look after themselves.
