Poster Boy
Lloyd submitted this photo of himself standing on a vibration platform. The photo comes from a poster with the motto “We design the machine, you design the body”.
Lloyd claims that for the last 18 months the only workouts he has done are vibration workouts.
If a picture is worth 1,000 words then this self-portrait says a lot.

The following questions come to mind:
- If I wanted to achieve the same results could I simply go to a Vibration Studio and start “working out”. Which machines can I trust?
- How do I know if the personal trainer actually knows what they are doing?
- What was the regimen that Lloyd used to achieve these results (how many workouts per week, which movements or stances, duration of “sets”)?

March 8th, 2007Thanks Lloyd–that was very helpful to know. This is a very key point and should be widely known.
Best Regards,
Green Green….
Trust me I have tried . But every manufacturor and marketer I have dealt with to date didn’t want to even listen . ( exept Jasper from Wavexercise in the U.S. )I managed to put safety programs in place at Power-Plate while I was their Product Manager 2003-2004. But they reverted back to their current program when I left.
It is one of the reasons I am so hard on them. Being ignorant of a fact is one thing. But refusing to acknowledge a potential probelem , because it doesnt suit your marketing ?

March 25th, 2007WooHoo! Can I have Poster please?
Now, please assure we women reading this that we aren’t going to end up with big arm and stomach muscles from using Vibration machines.
Men have testosterone which enables them to build muscle mass resulting in “Poster Boy” but women have estrogen which encourages fat to be stored in muscles..Yet women want to also build muscle mass (so called in advertising “lean muscle mass”). Women can gain muscle mass yet burn fat, yes? resulting in a trim, healthy looking body not at all like “Poster Boy” Please assure me there’s hope for me yet *laughs* even though I am just a little older than your stated age of 21!
I am 39.
And no you woman wont get big and bulky using the Required Force 2 machines that are in our studios.
I used a unit designed to gain mass and burn fat for 18 months to get like that.

March 27th, 2007I’d made a guess at your age Lloyd and I was right as I had guessed 39! You can’t ask my age though as that isn’t polite but still I am a little older than you
I can attest to seeing a difference in my partner after using WBV and he hasn’t used it many times, having only begun in February.

March 27th, 2007In a women’s body
Using rapid vibrations as in WBV burns energy (calories) yet I think that resistance excercise can also encourage estrogen production and that hormone is fat bound within the muscles, so what amount of WBV is needed to see weight loss in an overweight or obese female (these typically have excess estrogen already).
Is it fair to say that WBV is a good tool as part of a weightloss, body build program for women?

September 3rd, 2007HI poster boy nice to see your image on the website i have it on our studio window and the ladies keep asking for your phone # and why you don’t show your face . Don’t worry i explained why you don’t show your face LOL

John…
Yes I was in Ok shape.
The point of the image was really for other people who train already , as they would understand that after 18 months of no conventional training I should have atrophied considerably . I was only expecting to remain static in my body composistion and would have considered that a complete success by itself.
I had calculated that a change was possible but I was only really considering overweight and unfit people in that equation.
Pleasant surprise to say the least.

Can you tell us ladies why Lloyd doesn’t show his face in the image?
Could it be that men would not like their ladies standing outside your studio for hours staring at the image on your window? Great Body and face. You could sell copies of the image or give them away after 10 Vibration Training Sessions

Will you please explain more about the effects of WBV on women of child-bearing age who are overweight or obese. Many of these women have polycystic ovary syndrome or are estrogen dominant and so cannot easily conceive. Modern lifestyles and estrogens ingested from food products and plastics are causing epidemic problems and heartache of low fertility.
It would seem that WBV might make the infertility problem worse due to a rise in estrogens that accompany this type of exercise yet I have been told of women who have become pregnant (if desired of course) within a short time of starting WBV and of women who lose body fat and tone up and look great. Can you please explain this. Is the WBV exercise countering the effects of the unnaturally produced estrogens?
If (slightly) increased levels of natural estrogen are produced in women doing WBV twice a week this must benefit post-menopausal women.
Without getting into brand recommendations does brand matter? It’s obvious that it mattered to you for the program to get your body into that poster shape.
The leveling of a hormonal profile means the anabolic response of an anaerobic exercise must be calculated. Of course it is only a rough estimate as everyone is different but the basic principles do apply.
I believe the body does try to regulate itself and does not like the negative effects of a domonant hormone , but certain instructions must be recieved for this to happen effectively. I am trying to replicate these instructions.
I will be writing an essay on this soon.

September 4th, 2007Hi Di agree LLoyd would make most women weak at the knees i have great respect for him and his passion for what he does one big fan here. I was not looking to insult his looks just having a joke. Yes we have his picture on our window because i think people should recognise the guy behind what we do and he is a result of his own platforms. The only thing is that people don’t believe(particularly guys)the picture is realy a result of vibra-train but they don’tcome in and try LOL.

September 4th, 2007Hey Tom,
There’s an easy way to get the guys into your studio to try out the program but unfortunately it will take some time. Of course, it’s for you to get a great bod like Lloyd’s.
You’d get the girls in too!
- Tom
September 4th, 2007Di thanks for the advice but it won’t help my looks
i do the program every second day as i agree that if you believe in what you do you should be a product of it. At 42 and using the program for the last 8 or so weeks i have noticed the changes so has my wife which is great for such a short time frame. I use to go to the gym 3-4 times a week an hour to hour and half at a time for 6 months before giving it away and not get close to the results achieved for 10 minutes every second day and my diet is disasterous now also.
Women aren’t a problem they come in with open minds guys are so conditioned to think that if it doesn’t hurt after doing the program it doesn’t work. I guess that is our male ego. In saying that we had a fitness fanatic guy come in yesterday who had an open mind tried the program and was very impressed with where he thinks it will help him. it was great for a guy like him to recognise the benafits of vibration training even though i increased him from 1 minute positions to 2 minute in some of the exercises to accomidate his fitness level. - Yourmom
October 29th, 2007I just visited a place called 5R it is a vibration “studio” here in Garden Grove, CA this “studio” had various machines and the lady that gave us the tour said they had seen great results with muscle tone and weight loss, I was a little bit surprised to see several overweight children in there ranging in age from 9-14 years old. Is this type of program recommended for children? I didn’t see someone particularly supervising the people while exercising.
I can only talk for my company and my machines.
(a) Supervision is part of the service. You can not just pay for access to the units like a gym.
(b) A machine can be safe your young people, but it needs to be designed with safety limitations in mind.
As for 5R…..
From what I know they use the kind of cheap Asian units Mike Hair was duped into buying. These machines in my opinion should not be used on kids as the eductation/information process needed to operate them safely is simply not there.
I hope they all break down before they get to hurt anyone.
Young children are not recommended to use vibration training as their regular exercising programs. The intensive stimulation may cause pre-mature of growth plate on the bone.
Exception are obese children who have been diagnosed not suitable for traditional physical training or disabled children like cerebral palsy under close monitor by physicians or allied health professionals.

October 31st, 2007Every Time I see this thread it annoys me as there is no Before photo of you Lloyd. As I am pretty you were just as “CUT” before the training started.
Other Than that you do look good and it is shown that you have been dedicated to a healthly life style most of your life
- Di Heap
October 31st, 2007I’ve seen a before pic. Lloyd looks healthy but kind of big, not toned, not a look that would attract the ladies; more “CUTE” than “CUT”.
Of course there is more to being healthy and looking great than simply doing wbv. Trouble is Lloyd’s diet is often bad. His favorite food = pizza (as evidenced by anyone who goes in regularly to his studio).
Yes TC..
Special cases only. I would hate to see this technology mis-used by lazy parants. I always seek doctors advice/clearance first. But the bone plate problem would be no worse than forcing kids to long distance run on roads/concrete. Which in my country has been done for years with no ill-effects.
MickeyB…
I will explain again the point of the picture.
(a)Yes, I was in good shape before I started but up to 18% body fat. Doing weights and sprinting practice 3 times a week . I would say I have never been out of shape.
(b) I lost 7% over 18months. No dieting or any other exercise apart from using the machines I was designing/building at the time.
(c) On top of that I put on very hard muscle , like nothing I had personally had before. If you have ever had time off weights you would know how atrophy sets in very quickly. You must understand I was going for strength and speed gains , not muscle size. I fully expected to shrink up , but I didnt.
Note: I still have not entered another workout program and the comment I get from first time customers who are personal trainers is…
” but you MUST be doing do weights”
Emphesis on the “must” as they obviously believe the only way to gain lean muscle is doing weights. So either..
(a) I am lying
(b) I am a freak of nature.
(c) Their education is limited

I have known Lloyd for 18 months and have been training along side of him and I can confirm that his diet of pizza and similar fast foods and high sugar power aids is what keeps his body going. Lloyd does not recommend his diet to anyone but is a good indication how your body can still change under bad conditions.I have noticed since I first meet Lloyd that he was in OK shape for a 35-40?? Year old but over the last 18 months I have seen his whole body composition change from fit casual puffy muscle look to a very muscular and cut body that looks younger and has more energy.
And yes I will confirm Lloyd only does Vibra-Train and he exercises to exhaustion on the programme submitted.
We had a race one night and he kicked my butt. I will admit to being a high jumper (Bronze medallist at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne) not a sprinter, I am in pretty good shape and train 5-6 days a week doing a variation of running, weights, plyometrics and Vibra Train.

November 1st, 2007Ive known Lloyd some 23 months. He has a worse diet than me, and let me tell you mines pretty bad…..
Im the anti-health guru.

Maybe WBV should come with a warning: The enhanced feel-good that comes with this type of exercise can induce poor dietary choices. We’ve just eaten pizza plus desert pizza (berry and apple), fries ‘n sour cream and alcohol. That’s the good thing about regular exercise. It allows you to enjoy some of the “bad” things of life without guilt.
[Footnote: I wont be around these forums so often. I’ve taken a job in another sector of the fitness industry so until I can get my own studio or good job in wbv, I’ll be busy elsewhere. Will still be around well cut guys, so it’s not all bad]
I just did my first full weight training session back at the gym today after over 2 years off ,( I must admit I was going stir crazy from nothing but Vibra-Train for that length of time).
I felt in control and strong the entire workout with me going straight back to my old program with energy to spare , and my shoulder no longer makes a noise like a pepper grinder.
Will tell you how I feel tomorrow.
No problems getting straight back into weights. Not
sore the next day and especially impressed at my legs, I went pretty hard on them and was prepared to hobble out of bed the next day. A little stiff , that was it.Then I thought , delayed response may make me feel it the next day , as sometimes happens. So I waited.
Next day all good.
Next experiment , Track 100m.
It has come to my attention that a former Powerplate and Vibro-Gym employee is claiming they wrote articles for me ( I will name them on my website).
I would like to state for the record that ALL my work is original. And all my theories are original.
A Happy Holiday Season to all in Vibration Training Land…..
Thankyou to everybody who has put time and effort into asking questions and hence giving us all cause to converse about our industry. Without you this would be just another marketing site.
This next year I will be releasing work that backs up some of my theories . Lots of agreeing , lots of disagreeing , all good for seeking the potential of this science.
We do face a new coming danger though to our open conversations , and it will come in the form of large well funded companies paying internet ” reputation protectors” to wipe negative information about their unethical doings off sites like this.
I have a plan to stop this practice.
I think it will an interesting year all round.

December 24th, 2007Merry Christmas Lloyd and all vibration training parties (ethical ones only!!)
Keep up the good work and keep everyone on thier toes in 2008 and beyond.
I look forward to progressing Vibration Training into the future and rely on your watchdog attitude to keep people informed and discussing all aspects of the industry

December 25th, 2007I like Parties
And I did get to a few over the weekend. Not so sure if they were “ethical” (encompasses right conduct and good living) but they were lots of fun.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed sensibly to these forums this year. I’ve learnt lots. Special big thanks to Lloyd for the many hours you’ve put in so that others can benefit from vibration training.
I’d hoped to be actively working in the wbv industry by now but life threw me some curveballs. Now looking forward to 2008 and keeping up to date with all the exciting developments and again learning and reviewing /discussing what I already know. If your Christmas Day is just beginning I wish you a Very Happy Day.

December 25th, 2007MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY AND THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAS HELPED US , THE STUDENTS, TO LEARN ABOUT THIS SCIENCE. TO LLOYD THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR DEDICATION.
I WISH YOU ALL ALSO A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

December 25th, 2007A belated Merry Christmas and Happy holidays to all I think of as friends on this forum. My wish for you all is that the best of your past be the least you can expect of your future.
My thanks to Lloyd for all the knowledge selflessly imparted and looking forward to learning further from him.
I have been able to help a colleague and last night, my wife, with back injuries using the stretch exercise suggested by Lloyd. She was almost unable to move last night and is virtually pain free this morning after another stretch. Thanks guys take care and drive safe
I would like to place a notice here for the memory of Sir Edmund Hillary who died today.
His answer to why he climbed Mt Everest is an insperation to me always.

January 11th, 2008Well said Lloyd good on you
Well my experiment with weight training unfortunatly is over at least on my legs. My knees have just started to make funny noises again and feel rough for the first time in 2 years.
These are warning signs I did not heed last time and will not push my luck. It has taken me a long time to get my body back to 100%.
I will continue though to try and make it to the track.

February 13th, 2008Hi Lloyd,
Just reading your post from 23-1-07, re your training programme, can you please explain to me what you mean
by ‘required force’.
And,

The previous reply from her trainer after initial contact…
DEAR LLOYD
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP. I HAVE PASSED ON INFO TO MY CLIENT.
I WILL LET YOU KNOW OF HER PROGRESS.
(*********)
Thats fine to give out my e-mail. If she doesnt contact me , then make
sure she goes on Diinadole Methane if she can get it. It will bind and
dump the execess Estrogen quickly. Then after 2 weeks she should find some
Tomoxifen Citrate , Formestane or even something lighter like Saw Palmetto
or Pro-Brassica . Both the latter are natural products that you may find
at the supermarket. They are estrogen-blockers and will help balance her
out again.
While her estrogen levels are raised she will not lose any bodyfat , will
have intra-cellular fluid retention and risk “multi-organ failure” like
symptoms.
Next time you see her Power-Plate trainer , get his head ,stick it under
the machine , and turn it on for me will you.
Kind regards Lloyd Shaw
